Private On-Site Workshops Ortho Education Practice Partner Master Caster Recognition Public Workshops Coming in Fall of 2026

What an ASOP ortho staff training program has:• Musculoskeletal anatomy, fracture terminology, and common orthopedic injuries • Patient assessment, positioning, skin preparation, padding, and cast application • Application and removal of common upper- and lower-extremity casts and/or splints • Safe use of cast saws and other casting equipment • Pressure-point prevention, swelling management, neurovascular checks, and patient safety • Recognition of complications such as excessive pain, numbness, impaired circulation, skin injury, or compartment syndrome • Cast-care instructions and communication with patients and families • Infection-control procedures, documentation, and professional responsibilities The most effective training is hands-on, with participants repeatedly applying and removing casts rather than only watching demonstrations or presentations. Online textbooks, instructional videos, quizzes, and continuing education can strengthen the learning, but they should not replace supervised practice. After completing the workshop, the attendee will continue training using our online opportunities and in the orthopedic office under the direct supervision of an experienced orthopedic clinician or qualified casting professional. Competency should be documented for each cast and splinting procedure before the employee performs it independently. Over 16,000 orthopedic staff have attended ASOP Casting Workshops since 1996. Save time and travel expenses. Customized training. One and two day workshops available. Continuing Education approved for Rad Techs, Med Assists, PA-C, NP, RN, LPN, OT, PT and Orthopedic Technologists
